**If you do not have an account and need help, follow the directions below:

For this assignment you will be setting up an online portfolio that will have images of all your artwork. We will then link our portfolios together to make an online group. This will help you see your progress as an artist, view others’ works, and collaborate.

We will use the Yahoo based web site called Flickr. You will need a Yahoo account first (this is free). Next you will register an account on Flickr (also free!) to start creating your online portfolio. Follow the directions below:

1. Go to
www.flickr.com (it may be helpful to open this in a separate window) and click on Create Your Account.
Picture
2. Now you’ll see a window like the one on the right

Click on the Sign Up button and enter in some basic information to get a yahoo account.

Even if you already have one, make a new one specifically for this.

For your Yahoo! ID follow this format: first name last initial #

For example: John Smith would be JohnS93

It does not matter what number you select, but make sure you have your first name and last initial. NO NICK NAMES.

When you have your Yahoo! ID, log in to get started

3. Next, you will be logged into Flickr. Click on Explore Flickr.

You’ll be able to do some navigating around to figure things out for yourself. Look at the top menu bar to help you.

You will eventually upload photos of your work with my help. Flickr gives you ways to organize, edit and share your photos. You can create a contacts list of other people on Flickr. We will link ourselves together first by joining a group I have created.

JOINING THE PHOTO GROUP

Follow the directions below for your homework grade (20 points):

Setup a designated Flickr account for your photo portfolio if you do not have one already. Since this is an account for school, do not include personal photos or snapshots. All content should be art/school related  (please clean off any images that are not).

Click below on your class to ask permission to join your Photo Group.

Period 1
Period 2
Period 3
Period 4A
Period 4B

Finally, after I clear you as a member, post a message to the discussion I started to let me know you’ve made it this far. When you have your message posted you will get the 20 points for this assignment..

Add me “mrborja88” as a contact if I’m not already. This will make it easier to find photos I post for you. You will get a message from me saying I’ve made you a contact.

If you get stuck at any point,

Email me !  william_borja@hcpss.org

Photographer Inspired Self Portraits! Due December 22nd

12/15/2014

Self-portraits have been a method of self-exploration since humans first gazed at their own reflection in a pool of water, with the invention of the mirror came an even stronger fascination with the way artists see themselves.

And then there was the camera!

This Click assignment is a little different and more involved than the last ones.
We will be looking at other photographers as inspirations for our very own self portrait.
You will select from my list of example photographers and decide which one you would like to emulate in your own photography.  The end result will be your own self portrait following the style or techniques of your master photographer.

Things to do:
-Select a photographer to use an inspiration for your own self-portrait.  (You can find your own photographer but it must be approved by Mr. Borja)
-Plan out your photograph, how will you use your inspiration to make your own photograph.
-You can use an assistant to help you shoot this photograph.  Remember you are the director!
-When you upload your photo, in the description respond to ONE of the following questions to comment about your self portrait:

1.     How was your final piece influenced by your master photographer?
2.     How did you come up with and develop the idea for your final artwork?  Was your finished piece what you originally envisioned, or did it change from your first thoughts and sketches?  Describe how your ideas evolved from start to finish in making your artwork and the characteristics from the master artwork (formal / conceptual ideas) that inspired your self-portrait.

You will be graded upon:
-
Objective / Concept: Did you creatively solve the problem as independent thinker?  Image should be well thought out, planned and executed.  Image should be personalized with a unique and meaningful response.  Image is new and original (Avoid cliche and stereotypical responses)
-
Design: How elegantly do you employ the photographic principles of composition or principles of design in your work?
-Camera Use:  Did you use good lighting and is the exposure well focused?
-
Presentation : Did you make simple edits in a photo program to adjust levels, crop or clean up the image? Did you upload it to flickr on time and respond to the prompt in the photo description?

Your Click this time is to capture a decisive or important moment in time.  This could be of anything but people might be the best subject.  Capture something that is currently happening! Whether it's a mid stride in a run or the relaxed body of someone resting or someone's glance or smile.  Whatever happens, make sure it is interesting and that you use the principles of composition and everything you've learned so far.
