For our final darkroom work we will make a series of Cliche Verre prints. When you are putting your negatives together, do not just throw bits and pieces together... Do you best to match images up and THINK about your design. Create a focal point and places for your eyes to rest. Think of your principles of composition and elements of design.
You will create TWO final 8x10 prints
In every print, you must use at least one of these methods:
-Double exposure technique (layering two negatives on top of each other)
-Cutting your negative into design (taping it to a blank frame or on top of another image)
-Drip Developer (creates an interesting dripped design)
-Photogram (placing objects transparent or opaque over the photo paper)
-Scratched/Drawn Negative (draw or scratch on your negative to make it something new)
****For a challenge, you may do more than 1 method per print or do all the methods individually.

_____/_____ (25 points) OBJECTIVE: Concept/Solving the Problem
o You’ve created three prints that clearly demonstrate an interesting visual response to the theme of “Cliche Verre” by using experimental design choices and editing skills.
o Each print you have made demonstrates thought, planning, and use of photographic principles of composition.
o Each of your prints is technically successful. You have chosen high quality negatives from which to make your prints, and each print has been crafted with precision and care.
_____/_____ (25 points) STUDIO SKILLS: Darkroom Processes & Techniques
o Your final prints each are clean, clear, and have a wide range of values, (blackest backs and whitest whites)
o You have created successful test strips, and have correctly assessed the test strip to identify the right exposure time & aperture setting for each print.
o You have chosen the right enlarger aperture to preserve details and a wide range of middle grays in your print.
o You have correctly used an enlarger to enlarge and focus your negative.
o You have used darkroom tools & processes such as a grain focuser, filters, and/or dodging and burning when necessary to improve your print.
o You have used an easel to correctly center your image upon the photo paper when printing.
o You have correctly applied the 4 step printing procedure by processing your prints in each of the following chemicals: developer, stop bath, fixer, and water bath.
_____/_____ (25 points) DESIGN: Using the Photographic Principles of Composition
o You have printed negatives that demonstrate an interesting principle of composition. This principle of composition has been used with the intention of emphasizing the interesting “activation” of your subject matter.
o You have considered the correct exposure time, depth of field, and composition for each image to help visually enhance or present your subject in an interesting way.
_____/_____ (25 points) PRESENTATION: Professionally Presenting your Work
o You have demonstrated an understanding of proper care for all photographic materials, (prints are clear and clean of most distracting scratches, dirt, and chemical stains).
o Your negatives and prints are representative of cautious, careful exposing and printing procedures.
o You have used an easel and/or trimmed your print to create a crisp, clean, sharp border around the outside of each of your prints.
